District 9 and Cheese

I think it was in a Stargate episode that one of the characters commented that one cannot be human and not have an opinion. So, here is my opinion on two very random things, one probably more serious than the other.

I saw District 9 on Tuesday, but I've read about the movie and I've formed a pretty good idea of what people think and what they've taken out of the movie. For those of you who've seen it, it's pretty obvious that there is a very deep apartheids thread running through the whole movie, especially if you look at the "in your face" parallel between the title and the name of a White's Only district, District 6, back in the day.

Well, here's what I think. The general populous of this planet should stop trying to shift all the so-called apartheid labels over to our side of the globe. Racism, xenophobia and apartheid issues exist in every single country on our lovely planet. And as South Africans we should stop jumping on our hind feet, ready to rumble, when we get a sniff of an apartheid label. It's not worth it. Look at the Stargate series for instance. Xenophobia and racism shines through it like the sun through a fishnet stocking!! And this is an American program. See my point? This problem/issue is not just limited to one country.

But on to more lighthearted things. If you walk into a fast food joint and you ask for a burger, just a burger, and the girl behind the counter wants to know if "you'd like fries with that", you would expect to pay extra for the fries, right? Because it's a separate item on the menu, right? This is not rocket science, people. My point is this: If you ask for a burger, just a burger, and the girl behind the counter wants to know if you would like CHEESE with it, you WOULDN'T expect to pay extra for the cheese, because it's NOT a separate item on the menu, right? I mean, if you choose to NOT take the cheese, it would be your loss, because cheese is generally, all over the world, standard with a Burger (especially if it's advertised that way).

Well, obviously putting cheese on a burger at no extra cost, is too much of a brainfreeze for some people. I paid extra for cheese yesterday, but if I were to ask for JUST cheese at the very same fast food joint, I wouldn't be able to buy it there, because they're not a grocery store and cheese isn't a separate item on the menu. Cheese is attached to a burger...duh.

But, hey! You gotta pay for it, coz I asked you if you wanted it, and you said yes. Pssshhh...ridiculous!

I've said previously that I'm convinced I'm aging backwards. And once again I've found proof of this.

I bought myself a mini trampoline two days ago...and it is so much fun! Seriously, I can't imagine any excercise related equipment being more fun than this (except for climbing and abseiling, of course). I plug my iPod into the old hi-fi my dad gave me, switch on my favourite rock music, and jump away! It's GREAT!

I have definitely not lost touch with my inner child...whoop!!
